Spex Direct Mount is the simplest way to put a Spex back support on a wheelchair. The back fixes straight to the back canes at two points with no angle or depth mechanism in between, which keeps the shell tight against the canes, keeps the hardware light and gives back the seat depth that a bulkier mount takes up.
It is the right choice when the seating prescription is settled and the back is going to stay on the chair. There is nothing to work loose, nothing to adjust by mistake and nothing extra to carry. Overall width still adjusts enough to line the back up with the canes at fitting, and it fits the common cane diameters.
The trade-off is deliberate: the back cannot be lifted off, and the seat to back angle cannot be changed later. If the client folds the chair for the car, or their tolerance for back angle is still being worked out, the Dual Mount or Quad Mount is the better starting point. Load rating depends on the size of the back support fitted, so check that against the back you are prescribing.
Good to know
- The back cannot be removed once fitted; choose Dual Mount or Quad Mount if the client needs a quick release back
- Fitting required
- Hardware only; order the back support separately
