For a client at very high risk of pressure injury who also spends long stretches with the head of the bed raised, shear is the problem that foam alone will not solve. The Maxiglide is a foam mattress with a glide layer built into the base, so as the profiling bed articulates the surfaces move with the client and the skin is not dragged.
The top surface uses deep castellated foam cells that move independently and shape around bony prominences, and the whole mattress sits inside a two way stretch waterproof cover that keeps fluid out and lets vapour through. There is no pump, no power lead and no alarm, which makes it a practical choice in a home where a motor at the bedside would be intrusive or where the client cannot tolerate an alternating surface.
Covers come off for laundering, and the internal foam sections can be replaced individually, so one damaged section does not condemn the whole mattress.
