The small chest pad is the Pacer prompt for a walker who has decent trunk control and does not need to be held up, only reminded where upright is.
It sits across the chest and gives a light anterior boundary, so the client can take weight through their legs and get on with stepping. The pad angles to suit the posture you are working towards, and the client can be transferred in and out quickly, which is usually what decides whether a gait trainer actually gets used during a busy school or therapy day.
Paired with the multi positioning saddle and handlebars, it makes up a light configuration that leaves the arms and the visual field open. For a higher functioning client, that openness is often the difference between walking in the device and walking with it.
