Smilla is a therapy chair for children and young people who need postural support to sit and take part in what is happening around them, at the table, in the classroom or in the therapy room. Schuchmann designed it around active sitting, so the support is there to organise the pelvis and trunk while still leaving the child free to move, reach and engage.
Who it suits
It is built for children at GMFCS levels I to III who can manage some postural work themselves and need the chair to hold the base of it. Seat height, seat depth and seat angle adjust without tools, and the backrest, armrests and headrest set to the child as they grow, so one chair can follow a client through several years of change.
The wooden frame is intended for indoor use and finishes in natural beech, white or slate grey, with removable covers in a range of colours. A nursery version with shorter side frames suits early childhood settings. For therapists, the tool free adjustment means a review can be acted on during the session.
