The swivel lock holds the TRAM’s castors in line so the device tracks straight and does not wander. It suits gait practice down a corridor or along a set path, where a client who is concentrating hard on stepping does not also have to steer.
Taking the steering out of the task usually makes the walking look better straight away, and it lets the clinician stand where they can see the legs, with no need to hold the handles and correct direction. When you want free movement again, the lock comes off and the castors swivel as normal.
It fits the existing frame and needs no tools to use day to day.
