About this product

When a client’s thighs drift out into abduction, or the pelvis keeps rotating in the seat, the Spex Axial Thigh Support is the hardware that carries a lateral thigh pad beside the seat and holds it there, so the thigh stays where the therapist set it and the pelvis stays square.

You choose the mechanism to match how the client gets in and out of the chair. Quick-release lifts the whole support off with a lever, which suits a client who moves the chair into a car or needs the support off for cleaning. Swing-down pivots the support down and out of the way for a side or hoisted transfer, so nothing is left loose on the floor. Both come in a seat pan mount that bolts to the seat base, a seat rail mount that clamps to the rail, and left and right hand versions. All the adjustment is done with a hex key, so a set-up change at review takes minutes rather than a workshop visit.

Who it suits

A wheelchair user with low tone, hemiplegia or a windswept posture where the thighs need containing from the outside. The same mechanism is also made as a combined arm and thigh support where both are needed.
