Freezing of gait is one of the hardest things to treat in Parkinson’s disease, and it rarely responds to cueing the client can only hear. The U-Step Laser Cane puts a bright line of light on the floor in front of the foot, giving your client a visual target to step over and a way out of a freeze without waiting for someone to help.
The laser fires with each step, so the cue keeps coming as the person walks, with no need to switch it on and off. Many clients use it to lengthen a shortened, shuffling stride and to get moving again in doorways and at thresholds, where freezing tends to bite hardest. It works as an ordinary height adjustable cane the rest of the time, which keeps it to one item to carry.
