Getting on and off a low toilet is one of the first tasks to go after a hip replacement, a knee replacement or a stretch of deconditioning. A raised seat brings the toilet up so the client sits down and stands up through a shorter range, which takes load off the hips and knees and keeps the movement within a safe pattern.
The flip back armrests are what make it work for a client with weak legs. They give the person something to push through on the way up and to lower themselves with on the way down, and they swing back out of the way so a carer can assist from the side or a wheelchair can be brought in close.
Check that the raiser clamps securely to the pan and that the client can reach the arms comfortably when seated before it is signed off.
