The Staydry Chair Pad is a reusable continence protector for a wheelchair, a recliner or a dining chair. A brushed polyester top wicks fluid into a soaker layer and a polyurethane backing keeps the seat itself dry, and silicone grip dots underneath stop the pad travelling when the client transfers.
How it feels is the other reason to choose it. The pad is quilted and stitched rather than laminated, so there is no rustle and no plastic under the client. Two sizes are made, one to fit a standard wheelchair seat and a larger one for an armchair or dining chair, and it comes in six furniture colours so a lounge room does not start looking like a ward.
It suits a client with light to moderate urinary leakage who sits for long stretches, and it often works for a client with dementia who will happily sit on something that feels like a cushion cover. It also protects hire and facility furniture. It is not the answer for heavy overnight or faecal loss, or for a client who slides on any surface.
Good to know
- Wash before first use to activate absorbency
- No bleach or fabric softener, which reduces absorbency
- The 480 x 480 mm pad fits most 400 to 460 mm wide wheelchair seats; check the seat cushion depth
- Not a pressure care surface: place it over the client’s cushion, not in place of it
