Soft wedges are the working parts of a supported lying system, used in pairs to hold a client’s trunk, hips or limbs in the position you have set. They give steady, gentle support under the body and keep their shape through the night, so the posture you assess in the evening is still there in the morning.
They suit children and adults whose body shape is at risk from long hours lying down: anyone with limited independent movement, strong asymmetry, or a habitual sleeping position pulling them out of line. Because they come in a range of sizes, you can build up support under a small limb or along a whole trunk and change the arrangement as the client’s needs move.
For carers and family, the wedges make the set-up repeatable. Once you have recorded where each wedge goes, the night routine is quick and everyone puts the body in the same place.
