The Spex Vigour Standard Contour is the everyday foam cushion in the Vigour range, for a client who sits for long periods and needs moderate pressure care with a bit of lateral stability behind it. Think of an older client in a manual wheelchair who is comfortable enough but keeps sliding forward through the day.
Layers of high-resilience foam are shaped around a gel-foam ischial well under the pelvis, with a thigh ramp in front that holds the pelvis back in the seat rather than letting it slide out. Spex rates it 3 out of 5 for pressure care, positioning and lateral stability, which is a fair description: it is a solid general-purpose cushion, not a specialist one.
It comes with a breathable dual-layer spacer fabric outer cover and an inner incontinence cover, and replacement covers are available in nine colours.
Good to know
- Order by seat width and depth in inches; measure the wheelchair seat pan, not the client
- A rigidiser board, 5 degree wedge and phone bag are optional accessories
- Covers are machine washable; follow the Spex user manual for the foam
- No cushion cures pressure injuries: it is one part of a pressure care plan
