Arm supports only do their job while the forearm stays on them. For clients with high tone, involuntary movement or poor upper limb control, the arm slides off, and with it goes the shoulder girdle stability and trunk alignment the arm support was meant to provide.
The Spex padded forearm straps hold the forearm in position on the arm support while giving a soft contact surface against the skin. They fasten with a buckle and adjust to the individual, so a carer can loosen them for function and firm them up for transport or transfers without fiddling with hardware.
Attachment is flexible. They can be screwed into wooden arm pads or run through the existing arm pad attachment points, which means they can usually go onto a chair that is already set up, with no new componentry.
