The SallyBoard Curved bridges the gap between two surfaces so a client who is lying down can be slid across on a slide sheet instead of lifted: bed to trolley, bed to shower trolley, bed to bed. For a team doing several of these a day, it takes the worst of the load off their backs.
It is lightweight HDPE with a smooth top and curved edges, and two large grip pads underneath hold it on the mattress while the move happens. The board flexes enough to cope with a small difference in height between the two surfaces, which helps when the trolley will not quite match the bed.
It is radiolucent, so it can stay under a client for an X-ray rather than being pulled out and put back, and it is registered with the TGA. The surface wipes down between clients and does not chip or splinter.
Who it suits
A client who cannot assist with a bed-to-trolley transfer and is moved lying down by two or more carers, in a hospital, aged care or home setting where a trolley, shower trolley or second bed is used. Choose the large board for a taller client or where the full body length needs support across the gap.
Good to know
- Use with a slide sheet on top; the board itself is not a low-friction surface
- Lock both surfaces and match their heights as closely as possible before the transfer
- Wipe clean with standard detergent and disinfectant
