About this product

For someone with dysphagia, the danger in a drink is taking too much at once. The Rije cup deals with that by dispensing a measured portion each time it is stood upright, so the person gets one controlled swallow at a time.

The portion size is set by the clinician, and the cup refills its chamber within a couple of seconds of being put down, so drinking still has a natural rhythm. It works with thin and mildly thick fluids, which covers most of the range a speech pathologist is working across. The nose cut out lets the person drink without tipping their head back, which protects the airway position you have worked to establish.

It can be used with a straw or as an open cup, and it resists spills. For a client with motor difficulties, a developmental disability or dementia, that combination keeps drinking independent for longer, and keeps carers out of the middle of it.
