Active kids grow, and the chair they push has to keep up on both counts. The Zippie X’CAPE is a paediatric folding wheelchair with XLOCK technology, a patented cross brace that locks solid when the chair is open, so a child gets the efficiency and durability of a rigid frame and a family still gets something that folds into the boot.
Who it suits
Children moving towards independent propulsion who need a chair that will last several years. Growth is built into both the cross brace and the seat rail, so the chair can be widened and deepened as the child grows instead of being replaced. Setup can be fine-tuned so each child gets the best possible access to the wheels, which is where the energy saving really shows.
The Z-finity system handles the legs. Its footplate adjusts well above and well below the seat pan, and rotating hardware allows infinite adjustment of footrest angle and placement to position feet, ankles and knees properly. Choose swing-in, swing-out hangers to help with transfers and getting close to benches, or fixed hangers for the lightest, most active build. Frame and cross brace colours are chosen separately, which children take seriously.
