Some clients cannot generate or hold enough suction to draw fluid up an ordinary straw, and the effort of trying leaves them tired and under hydrated. A one way straw holds the fluid it has already drawn, so each sip starts from where the last one finished.
That cuts the work of drinking and reduces the air swallowed along the way, which matters for clients with reduced respiratory or oral motor function. The straw clips to the side of a glass or cup, so it stays put for a client with limited hand function.
Supplied in a pack, so there are spares for a household or a ward.
