Who it suits
Sling upholstery stretches with use, and once it does the pelvis rolls back and the trunk follows. The JAY Basic Back replaces that sling with a rigid back, giving the client a firm surface to sit against and a stable base to work from.
It is aimed at clients with straightforward postural needs: someone who sits reasonably well on their own but loses position over the course of a day, or someone whose sitting tolerance has dropped as the upholstery has worn. Adding a solid back usually buys back time in the chair and makes upper limb function easier because the trunk is not constantly correcting itself.
Mounting is either a fixed clamp style or a fixed strap style, so it can be set up on most standard manual chairs without reworking the frame. It stays out of the way of the client’s own movement, which suits self propelling users.
