Who it suits
The Hop is a rehabilitation tricycle for children and adults who cannot ride a two wheeled bike. Three wheels remove the balance demand, so the work goes into pedalling, steering and being outdoors with everyone else. It comes in four frame sizes, which means it can be prescribed for a small child and again for an adult without changing product.
Postural support is where it earns its place in a therapy plan. Back support, hip, trunk and pelvic supports, side supports and a headrest can be added and adjusted as tone, control and confidence change, so the same trike follows a client through a long program. The back angle adjusts as well, which helps riders who need to be reclined slightly to hold their head up.
The frame is aluminium and low at the step through, so transfers on and off are manageable for a carer. Geared drive with hand brakes, lights, mudguards, a chain guard, a kickstand and a basket make it usable on real footpaths and bike tracks, not only in a therapy space. Power assist can be added where the rider cannot sustain the effort alone.
