Making your own sandwich is a small thing until you cannot do it. The Homecraft spread board is a one-handed kitchen aid: a raised lip on two sides corners a slice of bread so it cannot slide away while it is being buttered, and stainless steel spikes hold a piece of fruit, a vegetable or a roll still for cutting.
It is moulded plastic, wipes clean, goes in the dishwasher, and sits on non-slip feet so the board does not travel across the bench with the food. There is nothing to assemble and nothing to set up each time.
It suits a client with hemiplegia after stroke, an arm in a cast or sling, or severe arthritis in one hand who wants to keep preparing their own meals, and it earns a place in kitchen retraining programmes and home discharge kits. A client cutting larger items such as a loaf or a joint of meat will do better with a full-size spike board with a knife guide.
Good to know
- No assembly required
- Spikes are sharp: store with the spiked end away from the bench edge
