Reaching behind to wipe is one of the tasks that quietly ends independent toileting, whether the barrier is shoulder range, trunk rotation, body size or hand function. The Etac Torkel is a set of tongs that acts as an extended arm so the client can manage it themselves.
Toilet paper is threaded between the tongs and rolled loosely around the tip, the client wipes, then squeezes the handle to release the paper straight into the toilet. It also holds a wash cloth or a small towel, which suits clients who do not use paper.
It is lightweight polyamide, can be disinfected and will take boiling water, so it is practical for long-term daily use.
