Most reachers ask the hand to squeeze against its natural direction. The Etac Aktiv is shaped the other way round: the handle is angled and carries an index finger support, so the client works with the hand rather than fighting it. The result is better control at the tip, which is what actually decides whether a small item gets picked up or knocked further away.
The rubber-coated jaws set in two positions, horizontal or vertical, so your client can take an item lying flat on a bench or standing upright on a shelf without twisting the wrist. A magnet in the handle picks up keys, coins and other small metal items. The aluminium frame keeps it light enough to hold out at arm’s length, and the whole thing wipes clean.
It earns its place in dressing, floor pick-ups and reaching into high or low cupboards, and it is often issued as a post hip replacement set alongside a long handled shoe horn and a sock aid. Match the length to the client’s height and to the task: longer models give more reach but are harder to control at the tip.
