Heels take a beating in a wheelchair. If your client sits with their legs extended and their feet pressed against a one-piece footboard, the hard board is doing the work that skin should not have to do. The Blake Geo-Matrix Footboard Pad sits over that board and puts gel between the foot and the frame.
Two layers of Geo-Matrix pillow-top gel sit back to back, and the front edge cascades down over the lip of the board so there is no ridge under the heel when the legs stretch out. That matters for anyone with reduced sensation, oedema, fragile skin or involuntary leg movement, where pressure, friction and shear all build in the same spot without the client feeling it.
The Elastatex cover is wipeable and moisture-proof, which suits a chair used all day, and a wrap-around Velcro strap holds the pad on without tools, so it can be moved between a footboard and the foot end of a bed. Note that it fits a footboard, not individual footplates: for a chair with two separate footplates, Blake makes gel footplate pads instead.
Good to know
