Every child deserves a go at riding a bike. The Rifton Adaptive Tricycle is for children and teenagers who cannot use a standard bike, and it is built as a piece of therapy equipment rather than a toy: supports, positioning and drivetrain are all set up around what the rider can do.
Riding builds strength, balance and confidence, and it does it through something the child wants to keep doing. For many children with limited mobility, an adaptive bike is a medically necessary device rather than a recreational extra, and it earns its place in a therapy programme, a school day or a family outing.
A freewheel option lets a carer disconnect the pedals from the drivetrain, so the trike coasts while the pedals stay still. The rider can rest, or be moved quickly, without getting off. Switching between drive and freewheel is done with a switch near the rear wheels. High traction tyres are also available for gravel, dirt, woodchips and mud, and their smooth centre band means they still roll well on paths and hard surfaces.
Three sizes are available.
