Some clients find that the thing limiting their day is not distance, it is vibration. Tiled floors, cobblestones, kerbs and steps all send jarring straight up through a rigid frame. The Shockwave XIX exists to take that out.
Melrose built a parallel four link suspension component for the rear wheels, adjustable for preload, damping and travel, and each side adjusts independently so the chair can be set for the client’s weight and the surfaces they cross. The travel and damping are enough for light off road pushing as well.
It is a trade off worth naming. The suspension unit adds weight and absorbs some of the energy that would otherwise carry the chair forward, so it is not the right script for every self propeller. For a client with pain, spasticity or a spinal condition aggravated by vibration, it is often the chair that makes daily pushing tolerable.
The back adjusts in height and folds with a bar release, the footplate height adjusts, and the chair comes with a black fabric sling and back with leather trim. The suspension unit is anodised, so the colour range is limited.
