A toilet surround that bolts to the pan puts the client’s weight through the pan, and for a heavier client that is a problem. The Throne Bariatric Rail attaches to the pan for location only: the load runs down through height-adjustable legs to the floor.
The rails sit above the seat at a spacing set for a two-handed push-up, and the legs are set back so they stay clear of feet and of a wheelchair footplate coming in. Rubber grips on the feet stop the frame travelling on tile. The polished stainless steel wipes down and holds up in a shared bathroom.
It suits a heavier client with weak legs or painful hips and knees who can push up to stand, at home or in a facility where a fixed grab rail cannot be installed. Because the load goes to the floor, it works where the wall or the pan will not take a mounted rail.
