A hard footplate is a pressure risk for anyone who sits for long periods with fragile skin or swollen feet. These Blake Geo-Matrix pads wrap over a wheelchair or shower chair footplate and put two layers of Pillow Top gel between the foot and the metal.
The gel cascades over the front edge of the plate, so a heel that hangs slightly forward rests on gel rather than a hard rim. That is the spot where damage usually starts. The Elastatex cover is wipeable and moisture proof, which suits shower chair use, and wrap-around Velcro holds each pad in place without tools, so a carer can fit or remove them in seconds. They are sold as a pair.
Who it suits
A client who sits for long periods with bare or lightly shod feet on a hard footplate, has fragile skin, oedema or existing heel damage, or who rubs their heels on the footplate edge with spasm or restless legs. Choose the standard size for a narrower footplate, or a full footbox pad where the sides of the feet need protecting as well.
Good to know
- Check the footplate size before ordering: the pad should cover the plate and its front edge
- Wipe clean; do not machine wash the gel
- Custom sizes are available to order
