The charcoal filter is the consumable that sits between the condenser and the collection bottle on the benchtop water distiller. It traps the volatile organics that carry over with the steam, so the finished water is clean as well as demineralised.
Filters load up over time and stop doing their job quietly, which is why they are replaced on a set schedule. Keeping a spare in the sterilising room means a changeover takes a minute and the distiller never comes out of service waiting on stock.
