This is the short Aktiv reacher, fitted with a hook, for a client who needs help dressing more than help reaching across a room. The hook pushes and pulls clothing: catching a trouser waistband, drawing a sock up, easing a sleeve on or flicking a garment off a shoulder while seated.
The handles are angled so the hand works in a strong, open position, and the jaws are coated in hardwearing rubber, which gives friction and cuts the grip force needed. The jaws can be turned and locked horizontally or vertically, so a client does not have to rotate a sore shoulder or wrist to line up on an item. A magnet in the handle picks up keys, coins and other small metal items from the floor.
The shorter shaft is easy to control close to the body, which is what dressing work asks for.
