Storage is usually what decides whether a scooter can cover the short trips a client used to drive to. The rear pod mounts behind the seat and gives them an enclosed boot for shopping, a jacket, a charger or a spare cushion, all of it out of the weather and clear of the legs.
Carrying the load behind the rider keeps weight off the tiller, so steering stays light when the scooter is packed. It also stops bags being hung off the handles and tiller, which is where a lot of scooter stability problems begin.
Worth raising with any client who tells you they only go out when someone can drive them.
