About this product

When a client cannot bend past the knees, the last step of getting dressed is the one that undoes all the others. The Homecraft Long Handled Shoe Horn solves it. The added length lets the heel be guided into a shoe from sitting, or from standing with support, with no forward bend and no loss of balance.

It is a single plastic moulding, so there are no joints to work loose and nothing to adjust. A loop on the handle lets it hang by the door or the bed, which matters more than it sounds: a dressing aid that lives where the client gets dressed is the one that actually gets used. It wipes clean and is light enough to hold out at arm’s length without shake.

Prescribe it for hip precautions after a replacement, restricted spinal flexion, or dizziness on bending, and it is usually issued with a sock aid and a long handled reacher as a set. A client who cannot grip a slim handle may do better with a moulded T-handle or a spring-loaded shoe horn.

Good to know

  • Works well with lace-up or slip-on shoes with a firm heel counter
  • Plastic will flex under heavy load; a metal shoe horn is stiffer for tight shoes
