Reaching down to a brake lever is difficult for a client with limited reach, weak grip or poor trunk control. A brake lever extension adds length to the lever already on the chair, bringing the handle up and forward to somewhere the person can actually get to.
The gain is independence. A client who can apply their own brakes can stop, park and transfer without waiting for someone else to do it, and an attendant pushing from behind has less bending to do at every stop. It fits to the existing wheel lock, so the brake itself is not altered.
Worth considering for a client who self propels well but has stopped using their brakes because the lever sits out of reach.
