Children who need a harness to travel safely on a school bus still have to sit in a standard bus seat. The EZ-ON 100SMU is a portable seat mount that wraps around a school bus bench and gives that harness something proper to attach to, so the child can be secured on any compliant seat without waiting for a fitted installation.
Four tethers run from the mount to the vest: two to the D rings at the waist and two to the roll adjusters at the shoulders. Because it wraps around the bench and bolts to nothing, it moves between buses and between seats, which suits shared transport, relief runs and school excursions.
There are conditions on how it is used. It is for school bus seats only, the seat must have an opening between the seat bottom and the seat back, and the seat directly behind the restrained passenger must be empty or hold restrained occupants. Above a certain passenger weight it has to be used together with a seatbelt, and it is used only with compatible EZ-ON vests.
The manufacturer recommends replacement six years from the date of manufacture, and any unit involved in a crash is retired.
