The foam plate for the back fills the gap that opens between the seat and the backrest when the seat depth is set out for a growing child. That gap is where a pelvis can slide back and a child can lose their sitting position.
Fitted behind the back cushion, the plate gives a continuous surface for the child to sit against, so the support you set at the fitting still works as the seat is let out over the following months. It is a simple way to hold a good position through a growth phase without changing the seat unit.
The plate is cut for the Stingray back and is fitted under the existing cushion, so nothing about the look or the feel of the seat changes for the child.
