Some clients sit well with a little containment at the trunk and start to lean once that is taken away. External laterals mount on the outside of the Configura Advance backrest and give that support at the sides of the chest, encouraging a more upright midline posture through the day.
They are supplied as a pair and fit both the standard and the postural backrest, so they can be added later if a client’s posture changes after the chair has been delivered. Position is set at fitting, which means an OT can place them where the support is actually needed for that person, not at a fixed point.
Better trunk position usually flows on to easier head control, better eye contact at the table and safer eating and drinking, which is often the reason for adding them in the first place.
