This calendar clock is for a client who has lost track of the day, not the time. The day of the week is spelt out in full on a large flip card, with the date and a twelve hour display alongside, so there is nothing to interpret and no abbreviation to work out.
Flip cards stay readable under fluorescent light and from an angle, which matters in a room where the clock is high on a wall or across from a chair. The calendar adjusts itself, including for leap years, so nobody has to remember to reset it.
It is a common recommendation for people living with dementia or memory loss, and it works just as well in a nursing home dining room or a day centre.
