This deluxe quad cane swaps the single tip of a stick for a four footed base, so it stands on its own and spreads contact over a wider area of floor. The large base is the more supportive of the two base sizes made.
The handle rotates, so the same cane can be set for the left or right hand, which is useful in a hire fleet or where a client’s affected side may change. Height adjusts in small steps, the hand grip is soft foam, and the four rubber ferrules are replaceable. The aluminium frame keeps the weight sensible for a base this size.
Who it suits
A client who needs more lateral stability than a single point stick, such as after a stroke with one-sided weakness, and who can lift and place the base squarely with each step. The large base gives more support but is heavier to swing and can catch on steps and kerbs, so a client who walks mostly outdoors or on stairs may do better with a small base quad cane. If the client cannot lift the stick cleanly, a walking frame is the safer option.
Good to know
- Supplied assembled; set the height so the handle sits at the wrist crease with the arm relaxed
- All four ferrules must contact the floor; teach the client to place the base flat
- Replacement ferrules available
