A padded calf panel holds the lower legs forward of the footplate hangers and stops the feet sliding back underneath the chair. For a client with extensor tone, a tendency to push off, or poor awareness of where their feet are, that is what keeps the feet on the plates and the knees in a workable position.
The panel spreads its contact across a broad area of both calves, so the pressure is shared, not concentrated on a narrow strap line. The Aeromesh face is porous, which helps with heat and moisture on a client who sits all day, and the backing stiffener keeps the panel from creasing into a ridge.
It suits tilt in space and power chairs where the leg position needs to stay put through a full range of tilt.
