This Peak Care shoe horn is the long, plain plastic one that turns up in most post-surgical dressing kits, and it earns its place. The extra length means a client slides the heel into a shoe from a seated position, or while standing with one hand on a rail, without ever bending forward to reach the foot.

The blade is wide and smooth, so it guides the heel rather than folding the shoe’s heel counter down. It is light, wipes clean, and has a hole in the top of the handle so it can hang by the door where it will be seen and used. There is nothing to assemble.

It is a sensible option for a client on hip precautions after surgery, with back pain, or with limited hip and knee flexion who can still manage laces or slip-ons. Pair it with a sock aid and a long-handled reacher and you have most of lower-body dressing covered. A client with a weak grip may prefer a metal shoe horn with a hook handle that loops over the wrist.
