The EasyGlide is a transfer board for seated, sideways moves: wheelchair to bed, bed to commode, chair to car. It suits a client who can take some weight and shuffle across, and it works just as well where a carer is assisting the slide.
The top surface is smooth low friction polyethylene so clothing slides rather than catches, and two strips of anti slip tape underneath hold the board on the wheelchair seat and the bed while the transfer happens. Rounded corners make it easier to work into position and draw back out afterwards.
It comes in four sizes, and the two wider boards are built in three parts with fold down long sides so the board can be shaped over a wheelchair wheel and armrest. Every size wipes clean with the alcohol based disinfectants used in shared equipment pools.
Who it suits
A client with reasonable sitting balance and some upper limb strength who transfers sideways, for example a paraplegic wheelchair user or a client with weak legs after a stroke, and carers who want to reduce lifting during a bed to chair move. Pair it with a slide sheet or a Thrive slide cushion for a client who cannot lift their pelvis at all. For a client who cannot sit unsupported, a standing or full hoist transfer is safer.
Good to know
- Short boards suit small gaps such as wheelchair to bed; the 750 mm board bridges a wider gap such as wheelchair to car seat
- Choose the folding 330 mm boards for a wheelchair with a fixed armrest or a large rear wheel
- Not for use as a standing surface
- Disinfect with 70 percent ethanol or 45 percent isopropanol after use
