Building up a handle is one of the quickest wins in occupational therapy. A thicker grip means less force through the fingers and a more open hand position, which helps clients with arthritis, weak grip, contracture or reduced sensation keep using their own cutlery, toothbrush, pens and tools.
This closed cell foam tubing slides straight over a handle and stays put. It is light, warm to the touch and does not soak up water, so it works on kitchen utensils and in the bathroom. Cut it to length with scissors or a knife and one length covers several items.
Because it is supplied in a metre length, a therapist can test different grip lengths on the spot in a home visit and leave the client set up the same day.
