Transferring someone who cannot weight bear, or who is recovering from surgery and needs to stay flat, is where staff injuries happen. The Barton converts between a flat surface and a seated chair, so the person can be moved across from the bed in supine and then brought upright in the chair itself.
Who it suits
It suits clients in early mobilisation, people with limited or no sitting balance, and anyone whose transfer currently takes several staff and a lot of manual handling. Once seated, the chair tilts and reclines for pressure relief and postural change, and it moves on its own castors, so the person can be taken to the dining room or the treatment area without a second transfer.
For the service, the appeal is the reduction in lifting. One person can manage a transfer that would otherwise need two or three, and the person being moved is handled far less.
