For a client at very high risk of pressure injury, the GelCell combines air and gel in one cushion. Thirty four interconnected air filled cells sit under a silicone based TruGel top layer. Air moves between the cells as the person shifts, so load spreads away from the bony prominences and the pelvis immerses into the surface.

Using air as the medium keeps capillary function going in the tissue, which supports blood flow and oxygen uptake to skin that is already compromised. The interconnected cell design also lets air move across the cushion, so heat does not build up at the seat interface.

It is light and easy to move between chairs, which suits a client who transfers between a wheelchair and a lounge chair through the day. The outer cover machine washes and wipes down.
