Walking practice that only ever happens on a smooth clinic floor does not prepare a client for the ground outside. The utility base is the outdoor wheeled base for the Rifton Pacer, supplied without an odometer.
Larger castors and a broader footprint let the frame roll over footpaths, grass, gravel and the small lips and cracks that stop a smaller wheel. That means a client can practise the route they actually use, whether that is getting across a school yard or down a driveway. For families, it opens up walking as something the client does out in the world, not only in a therapy room.
