The pad is what the client actually sits on, so it carries the comfort and most of the cleaning load. HTS pads are made from closed cell polyethylene foam, which does not soak anything up, and they lift off the seat for washing with soapy water or a mild disinfectant.
They attach with four snaps into the holes in the seat, so a carer can take one off, clean it and put it back in under a minute. That makes it practical to keep a spare in service while one is drying.
The closed seat pad gives a narrower opening with support closed at the back. The no hole pad comes with a rigid white plastic hole filler to stabilise the seat on the medium and large HTS, which is what you want when the chair is used for showering or as a shower chair seat.
